HyperCat Summit 2016: collaborative innovation in IoT
How can we maximise the use of data from the Internet of Things? Nick Monnickendam, Marketing Director at Flexeye, reveals details about this year’s HyperCat Summit, which will explore this issue and focus on collaborative innovation in the IoT.
HyperCat is an Innovate UK backed consortium that is taking a highly collaborative approach to drive forward secure and interoperable IoT for industries and cities. Supported by the Digital Catapult and Future Cities Catapult, HyperCat has already built up real traction, with over 800 members including leading technology players, SMEs and public sector organisations.
HyperCat is addressing two central challenges around the rapidly evolving Internet of Things. Firstly, how to find relevant and trustworthy data from connected “things”; and secondly, how to make it easier for those things to talk to each other.
While it may sound like a dry technical issue, solving this interoperability challenge has the potential to unlock trillions in value worldwide. Indeed, a McKinsey report estimated that this interoperability is essential to unlocking 40% of the $11tn estimated future value of the IoT.
We’re halfway through an 18-month programme. At the heart of this is the creation of the HyperCat standard, which makes it easier to discover data from connected “things” and combine it to create valuable new applications and services.
The standard is currently being implemented across 11 vertical “spearheads” across smart cities and industry, from logistics to smart lighting. Flexeye is leading the overall programme and will use its technology to demonstrate interoperability across the spearheads.
You can find out a lot more about HyperCat and the benefits it is delivering for industry, cities and citizens at the HyperCat Summit at the Royal Festival Hall, London on 20 June. The event is hosted by Merlin, Lord Erroll, David, Lord Evans and Justin Anderson, Executive Chair at Flexeye, We’re also delighted that Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands will join Bettina Tratz-Ryan, Research VP for Smart Ecosystems at Gartner for a “fireside chat” on Collaborative Innovation.
With a programme foreword prepared by the Rt Hon David Cameron, the Summit will convene smarter thinkers from across Europe, including government ministers, FTSE 100 leaders, CIOs, city managers and planners, engineers, Artificial Intelligence experts, philosophers, IoT entrepreneurs, designers and more. Together, we will explore how smart systems are solving the world’s biggest problems and transforming whole industries.
