There are a more than 164,000 registered charities in the UK, boasting an annual combined turnover of £38bn.
It is a common misconception that the charity sector is small and underfunded, and in terms of innovation the sector is left behind when it comes to utilising new technologies. In the face of increasing global competition it is paramount that charities explore new systems and solutions that help them make a bigger difference and increase their visibility.
The Digital Catapult Centre North East & Tees Valley, in partnership with Barclays & MADTA (making a difference through analytics), are holding a data hack for a group of charities in order to help them to identify challenges and limitations and overcome them through the innovative use of data.
Not only will participants have the opportunity to share their skills and expertise to help make a difference to worthwhile charities, this event is an opportunity for individuals and companies alike to gain a greater understanding of the commercial opportunities to work in this relatively untapped marketplace.
Teams will be formed on the day by attendees so groups and individuals are welcome. At the end of the hack all teams will have 5 minutes in front of a panel of judges to present their ideas and findings with prizes will be awarded to the best teams.
The hack is taking place in two locations:
North East– Sunderland Software Centre, Tavistock Place, Sunderland, SR1 1PB
London – Barclays Headquarters, Canary Wharf, London
The event takes place between 9am-7pm
The names of the charities, the challenges and the data will be announced on this page in the coming weeks to give attendees time to prepare.
